Hot today doesn’t necessary mean Cretaceous Climate tomorrow
We are now in one of the hotter summer until we have data, and affect all north hemisphere. The extreme climatic episodes has augmented in last years and it’s a prove the begin of climate change. The most relevant effect is the growing of mean planetary temperature associate at the growing of CO2 concentration. Both grows are simultaneous and the most preoccupant of them is that is making with exponential form.
But can we affirm that the future weather will be the same of the Cretaceous age in a few years? The answer is not trivial. The growing of greenhouse gasses help to grow the atmosphere temperature, and the growing of temperature augment the concentration of this gasses, this fact is naming Feedback. Feedback is the main mechanism to guide the atmospheric processes.
There are same studies that show the correlation of CO2 concentration and temperature, and there are numeric models that demonstrate this correlation. This thing don’t mean that we had burned a lot of fossil fuel doesn’t affecting the atmosphere; neither it mean that we stop to burn now the concentration of CO2 and temperature will not continue to grow. The climate change is responsibility of human actions but not only, and the most difficult of them is known how much responsibility have of both.
Now it’s very easy to predict a future hot weather, in basis of the actual growing of temperatures and the denial of society leave to burn fossil fuel. But we don’t have models out of the actual conditions, and the no lineal effect of the feedback impedes the extrapolation of ours predictions when we leave the normal conditions.
We can find a possible behaviour weather out of actual conditions in the before climates. When we observe the climatic history of last 30 million years, we can see that the earth is in to ice age denominated Cenozoic. In this ice age was alternating a short time of temperate weather with long times of glacial weather. Now we are in a temperate weather and the conditions which they had done the ice age continue today, so the most probably thing that will happen, is continuing in ice age.
Cretaceous was a very hot time and witch very high concentration of CO2, but the orographic changes carry the weather to cold and less concentration of CO2. We don’t know what happen in the future but the heat of today can carry ours climate to ice age again, and exist models that corroborate it.
